Project Dance Event Overview
A Project Dance Event takes place over a 3 day weekend and will bring the message of hope and healing through the universal language of dance to major cities around the world. Although the weekend is designed to give participants the opportunity to perform live and take dance classes, we ultimately strive to inspire dancers as artists and as people. The activities throughout the weekend strongly focus on faith and personal growth.
Friday
Check-in and Expo: All Participants attend a final registration process that covers every aspect of the 3-day event. Participants meet the the PD Staff and are able to browse The Project Dance Expo. This is a required event for attending dancers.
Project Dance Live: Participants come together for the first time on Friday evening for Project Dance Live. Through music, dance, and one-on-one interviews, dancers have a chance to glean from the knowledge and experience of our professional panel and see the powerful ways that God is working in their lives. They also learn important details about the weekend's events. At this year's New York event there were performances by Broadway Underground, Ad Deum Dance Company, Jeff and Natalie Lewis, Theara Ward, and Atmosphere,a company of Project Dance. The evening ended with an uplifting musical concert by Kevin Singleton and Hugh Wilson.
Saturday
All Day Dance Concert: Participants who wish to perform must come prepared with their own choreographed piece. These dance numbers can consist of any style of dance; groups and solos are welcome. Project Dance requires video submissions of potential dance pieces in order to participate in this dance outreach. Registered dancers or groups may submit more than one piece, but we can only guarantee that one dance number will be performed.
The purpose of this concert is to freely share our talents with the public of New York, Sydney, Hong Kong and Atlanta and to communicate a message of hope and healing through the language of dance. For this reason, we ask that all dance numbers carry a positive theme and are family friendly. Costuming should be appropriate for all ages.
Reaching Out: During the performances, dancers who feel comfortable sharing the Gospel of Jesus Christ with others will be welcome to do so. All those who share will be asked to sit in on one of our training sessions before participating in this portion of the weekend. The public has been very responsive over the years to Project Dance events and many lives have been changed forever. Dance has a way of opening up the heart of man and our desire is that the very real presence of God will pour into the hearts of those who see our show.
Sunday
Inspiration and Devotion: Sunday morning’s session is a very special time to share experiences from the weekend, worship God, and hear a dynamic word from one of our dancers. You will be amazed by their stories and experiences in the real world of dance. Learn how God has met these dancers in the midst of trials throughout their careers and become encouraged as you realize how God will use you in world changing ways as you launch a dance career.
Dance Classes: Project Dance classes are taught by leading professionals from around the globe. A variety of classes are offered for dancers with different skill levels to choose from. Learn from the best in ballet, modern, jazz, tap, hip hop, and musical theatre dance, etc.
Some of our roster of dance teachers include: Cheryl Cutlip, The Radio City Rockettes, Hope Boykin, Alvin Ailey American Dance Theatre, Randall Flinn, Ad Deum Dance Company, Mona and Jeremiah Enna,The Culture House, Steve Rooks, The Martha Graham Company, Jenifer Ringer, The New York City Ballet, Noemi Del Rio, T.A.D.A.H. New York City Hotel Information
While Project Dance does not require you to stay in a particular hotel we advise that you stay as close to the TIMES SQUARE area as possible. Booking a room in advance is a good idea. Rooms go fast in New York and you can usually cancel within days without being charged the room rate. Simply ask about the cancellation policy before booking so that if for some reason you find another hotel or change your plans you can release your room without any penalty. You can also log onto www.expedia.com and search for hotels in the midtown Manhattan area. Hotels between 40th-50th Streets on Broadway/6th Ave./7th Ave./or 8th Ave. are ideal since you can walk to all related events throughout the weekend.
